National Smile Month is organised and run by the British Dental Health Foundation. We are an independent charity that is dedicated to improving the oral health of the public by providing free and impartial dental advice, educational materials and national campaigns, such as National Smile Month 2012!
This year we celebrated our 40th birthday and we are constantly looking for ways to improve oral health and make everyone smile. Here’s what we get up to when we are not running the UK’s biggest oral health campaign!
Campaigns
We lead campaigns which raise awareness on major health issues like mouth cancer. We also run projects with our partners like the Wrigley Tooth Fairy Fund which supported 12 projects this year.
Education
We are a leading provider of educational information and resources to dental and health professionals. Our resources help to educate and motivate millions of people each year to improve their oral health.
Advice and Information
We provide expert, free and impartial advice to the public - online and via our confidential dental helpline. We use industry experts, qualified dentists and dental nurses to provide the most comprehensive source of independent dental information in the UK.
Product Accreditation
Our expert panel independently assesses hundreds of dental products to help consumers make an informed choice. Our accreditation symbol has appeared on nearly 600 products worldwide in over 50 countries.
Influence
We contribute to UK and worldwide dental policy development. Our independence ensures we are an important voice in the media and with decision-makers.
In the financial year 2010-2011 the British Dental Health Foundation’s highlights included:
Over £950,000 spent on promoting oral health.
One million educational leaflets distributed.
Personal advice to over 10,000 people contacting our Dental
Helpline.
Online help and information to three quarters of a million people
visiting www.dentalhealth.org.
31 per cent growth in product accreditation.
Over 1,300 oral health educational news stories with an estimated
100 million circulation.
